Approximately 600 million years ago, a cosmic collision occurred. Galaxies NGC4038 and NGC4039 passed through one another, and soon after began releasing stars into the new galaxy. This galaxy, located in the constellation Corvus and discovered in 1785, is known for its antennae-like shape and for its exceptionally high (albeit momentarily) rate of star formation.
