Provenance: The Louis E. Stern Collection, 1963 Philadelphia Museum of Art
When I was nine years old, while staying at a wealthy American’s St. Croix U. S. Virgin Island estate, I discovered in one of her private apartments – with its own courtyard and miniature tangerine trees – a large coffee table art book. Inside was a photo of Marc Chagall’s Over Vitebsk. I passed the next several hours marvelling at the work of art. I knew then that flying in dreams was not odd that it was perfectly normal. One of my favourite works of contemporary art.
